About Aguacene™ Fund at MakeWay Foundation

The Aguacene Fund was a fund at MakeWay Foundation to support local and global water initiatives such as: water quality, ocean acidification, responsible water consumption, water purification, action-based water education, healthy water ecosystems, marine preserves, watershed stewardship, Arctic and Antarctic protection, measurement, monitoring, tracking, and projecting, and other areas which directly or indirectly impact water.

The Aguacene™ group was the primary donor and responsible for recommending to MakeWay Foundation to whom and when grants from the Aguacene Fund were distributed.

We are very excited to announce that all the funds have been distributed to the following projects:

  •  Darnley Bay Seal Monitoring project, which played a key role in establishing the Anguniaqvia niqiqyuam Marine Protected Area, located in the Beaufort Sea near the community of Paulatuk, Northwest Territories ( click here for official Government of Canada announcement).
  • Sachs Harbour Marine Protected Area project, situated on the southeastern shore of Banks Island in the Inuvik Region, and part of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, of the Northwest Territories. Project administration flows through the MakeWay Arctic Marine Fund.

Although the Aguacene Fund at the MakeWay Foundation is now closed, stay tuned for other exciting projects as the fund’s mission continues and its resources replenish.

The Aguacene Fund is always interested in evaluating specific organizations to grant support to vis-à-vis the Mackenzie river and broader ocean protection initiatives. Please contact us with any ideas or suggestions.
